Soudhamini Installs Chennai

It is very enviable to have a vacation on the horizon, and even better if it’s on the east coast of India.  In the heart of the Tamil film industry, Kollywood, as well as being one of the major music centers in the world, Chennai has many lovely and splendid things to offer the world traveler.  There is a terrific combination of nature and urban life here, with the fantastic coastline, beaches and rivers, as well as the city itself, a metropolis that is very lively and offers many attractions to please guests of all ages.  It also has a fantastic supply of 5 star hotels.  Chennai is a treasure for hospitality and luxury, offering a magnificent getaway from the world.

Falling asleep and waking up in a magnificent luxury hotel is a rare pleasure, and it’s the perfect way to organize your days here.  There is a splendid sense of style in Chennai, merging ancient India with contemporary sensibilities to make for a heady combination of visual delight.  Sampling some of the local food, prepared by world class chefs, taking in a spa treatment or a healthy workout, and then heading out to see the city, is a spectacularly fun experience.  There are many delights to see here, and an incredible array of visual art.  You can even find spectacular video installation art here, but there are few in the world with the stature of Soudhamini.

Her education is in video as well as English Literature, and she has served on the jury for several film competitions.  Her own video work is tending toward the installation.   Her film, Meditations on the tiger, shot while she was doing a residency in Munich through the Goethe Institut, was shown at the Lalit Kala Akademy.  The three-screen format is often used in installation art, and is a wonderful way for the artists to manipulate image with an attitude toward time, angle, or even theme, and is a spectacular way to open up the art form to new exploration.  It’s exciting to see it happening here.
