Will Miss California be stripped of her title?
Author: Lisa
Really what is it with the Miss Universe franchise? It seems like every year there is a scandal. And it also seems to depend on how the Donald is feeling that day whether or not the girl gets the boot. In 2006, Tara Conner was allowed to retain her title after a scandal over drugs. Tara Conner was allowed to retain her title because Trump said that everyone deserves a second chance. How touching.
The next year, Miss Nevada, Katie Rees was not allowed to keep her title after nude photos of her surfaced. Rees got the boot for being topless, but Conner gets a pass for drug use? Something does not add up.
This year’s Miss USA pageant was already marred with scandal after the beauty queen in question Carrie Prejean, the map of California’s go-to-girl on marriage rights was found to also have topless photos on the internet. There were also rumors that she had breast implants.
After the ensuing debacle over the question judge Perez Hilton posed to Miss California and her subsequent answer about being opposed to gay marriage, now this.
It will be interesting to see if Trump gives her the boot or not? Since most on the United States map believe she only received runner-up for her conservative views, it will be interesting to see if she keeps her crown.
And by the way, the Miss California USA co-executive producer, previous winner of the crown and Playboy model, says Prejean has been unavailable for comment.
It’s just hard to understand why it’s okay to pose nude after you win a title and not before? Really what is the difference? Where is the line drawn for Miss USA pageant? It all sounds pretty hypocritical. None of these women seem to exemplify what it means to represent the USA map, this pageant needs an overhaul.
Singapore Animators at Cannes
Author: Lisa
Two Singaporean animation artists, working for the company, MediaCorp, joined a group of delegates at one of the largest animation fairs in the world. Just a few months ago, in March the trade show which draws international artists and animation studios, the MIPTV, was held in France at Cannes. The artists Jeanette Aw and Qi Yuwu, brought their film, “The Little Nyonya”. This is a story of a girl, as she grows into womanhood.
Born of Chinese heritage and raised in the Peranakan culture in Singapore, the storyline follows her life and illustrates the various aspects of this cultural group. This is a dramatic animation film. And last year, throughout the five star hotels in Singapore, the private homes of the locals, and in theaters across the island, “The Little Nyonya ” became the most watched program in fifteen years. The Singaporean delegation in Cannes was made up of ten people, with hopes of finding backing and world-wide distribution.
This was no small line-up of the industry of animation. Three other films made their debut on the market, including the Jim Henson Company’s collaboration “Dinosaur Train”. This film has sold in Canada and Norway, being broadcast by Nickelodeon’s division in Australia. These trade shows are important no only for the securing of distribution of the films, but for the other business ventures as well, as the Jim Henson Co. has secured the production of toys and educational pre-school products which relate to this series.
Another animated film of the Singapore company Sparky Animation debuted in March at Cannes. The series, titled “Jack” has a target audience of the age group of children 6 to 9 years of age. This series follows a tiny alien as he and his friends take discovery adventures around the world. All these films and series have leaned this year to not only entertain children, but to provide fun and exciting ways for children to learn about history and science and about the world that we all live in.

Delhi Architectural Wonders
Author: Lisa
Delhi is the sixth largest city, by population, in the world and the second largest urban area in India, and the diverse cultural and architectural elements of the city reflect its prominent global designation. Vacationers have a difficult time taking in all of the possible sight seeing and cultural experiences of the city, though it is impossible to not be amazed by the many beautiful and grand buildings found there. Many Delhi luxury hotels offer guests great views of the city skyline, and by night they can scan through and determine where they would like to visit the next day. Humayun’s tomb and the Secretariat Building are two key landmarks that most visitors will not want to miss.
Humayun’s tomb is located in Nizamuddin, East New Delhi. It is a complex of buildings that were built as a tomb for Mughal Emperor Humayun. It has been compared in architectural style to the Taj Mahal. It is the first example of Mughal architecture in India and has been included as a World Heritage Site. The mausoleum includes many tombs including that of the emperor. Unfortunately vandalism and illegal trespassing was becoming common and the tomb had begun to experience deterioration. A clean up and restoration plan was put into place and by 2003 the work on the water flow to gardens was complete. Other building deteriorations are the natural result of aging and weathering. More restorations are in progress and planned for the future.
The Secretariat Building is two buildings that make up the government offices of India. The North Block and the South Block contain some of India’s most prominent government ministries and reflect this unique prestige in their design and placement. They are located on Raisina Hill and are across from the Rajpath. Together they flank the Rashtrapati Bhavan. These prestigious buildings were designed by the British architect Herbert Baker. He borrowed from and created a variation on Moghul and Rajputana styles. This style of architecture is unique to Raisina Hill and adds to the grandeur of the Secretariat’s appearance.
Festivals and Nightlife in Goa
Author: Lisa
Goa has become famous for the festivals and carnivals, many of them Indo-Latin in historical reverence. These are occasions for everyone to celebrate, from the wealthy business owner to the peasant to the tourist staying in one of the five star hotels in Goa. The term, carnival, is taken from the Latin, which when translated literally means the taking away of or the removal of meat. The main spring time festival is in honor of the Hindu god Shigmo. This festival celebrates spring as the ‘New Year’, when life flourishes again after the winter months. The festival of Shigmo is a joyous celebration, however the festival of Shivaratri honors penance and austerity. There are 3 major festivals celebrated in Goa honoring Shiva, and this is the most ancient in tradition. The Shivartri festival, is not a celebration, but a time of meditation and introspection.
While most of the festivals are celebrations, such is true of the nightlife in Goa. The parties tend to last all night. On any given night, families head out to dance the night away, or to relax with a bit of gin or feni. One interesting attraction in the city are the existence of house/restaurant/bars. In just about every 3rd house on any street, people open up their most trendy and fashionable room to the public. They set out a couple of tables with chairs, and serve customers just as one would get served in a restaurant. Many find this an option to the more crowded established restaurants, as it is relaxing and pleasant to simply sit in someones house and have a night out of it, a stranger’s house no less. Many locals who offer their houses up in such a manner are very fine chefs. The cuisine is often fresh, with garden vegetables and seafood, stocked bars and nice conversations. Some international travelers may find this to be a strange custom, but should one venture into one of these establishments, they will be pleasantly surprised as to just how comfortable and wonderful the experience will be.
Cheap Knee Surgery Outside the States
Author: Lisa
Affordable knee surgery is easy to find if you look outside of the United States where excellent physicians are practicing in state-of-the-art hospitals. Where patients once feared to venture out of their own countries to undergo surgery, it has now become almost an essential if you are looking for affordable health care.
Sports injuries and age are responsible for most knee injuries, with many resulting in the need for surgery. This type of surgery is common and is performed on a frequent basis in Mexican hospitals where surgeons complete their post graduate work in North American, Canadian, or European settings where diagnostic and practical work is at the cutting edge. Many people needing knee replacement surgery find that their total costs are reduced by 50% when they go to Mexico for the procedure. Additionally they benefit from the dedicated attention that Mexican hospitals and their staff are famous for.
Because knee surgery is generally not a complex procedure, one can recuperate in hospital and then enjoy a white, sandy Mexican beach for a few days before heading home. All of this, with money still in your pocket, as opposed to the ever-spiraling rates found in the United States health care system. For more information on finding physicians abroad, consult a renowned medical tourism authority.
